The Currey family sugarbush is located in Charlevoix, in the northwest corner of Michigan’s lower peninsula. Our land sits on an elevated ridge just over a mile from the shore of beautiful Lake Michigan, where the cold northern winds blow off the lake all winter long. When the weather gets warmer in February and March, the 320-acre farm springs to life and the maple sap starts to flow. We have approximately 70 acres of woods, containing thousands of maple trees. Only about 30% of our forest is tapped for production each year.
Following the example of those before us, our family is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of the land that we farm. We do not use any chemicals, additives, preservatives, or harmful forestry practices in our production process. Our Charlevoix farm first produced delicious syrup in 1973, and returned to active production in the spring of 2006.
